8/10/2023 0 Comments Chicago grid map![]() ![]() Some of the credit for our grid system of streets is due to the Public Land Survey System. Chicago's grid is easily spotted when flying into O'Hare. But it is not the tall buildings of the Loop that create the order and sense of direction that make it easy to get around Chicago. Chicago has sometimes been said to be the prairie town that built its own mountain range (the skyscrapers of the Loop). In some parts of the world, wayfinding is often practiced with regard to mountains – landmarks that you can see and tell if you are going toward, away from or alongside of. In this age of GPS, having a sense of direction is often a vestigial skill.
